Chris Mattmann Featured in CBC News on AI-Generated Political Campaign Videos

Chris Mattmann was featured in CBC News in a new analysis by Mark Gollom examining how AI-generated campaign videos are reshaping political communication, voter attention, and online political momentum.

The article, “How AI has helped a former reality TV star become a contender for L.A. mayor”, explores the viral AI-generated videos surrounding Spencer Pratt’s Los Angeles mayoral campaign and the broader implications for future elections.

Mattmann explained that today’s generative AI video tools have rapidly lowered the barrier to producing realistic, emotionally resonant campaign content. What once required major production budgets, technical teams, and long timelines can now be created with prompts, iteration, and creative direction.

“You don’t need to be deeply technical to do it,” Mattmann told CBC News. “You just need to be able to describe at a minimum … those types of shots you want to get, the types of emotions, the types of scenes that you want to hit.”

The piece highlights a major shift in political media: AI is not only being used for deception or deepfakes, but also for viral storytelling, meme culture, emotional impact, and rapid-response campaign messaging.
